Department of Experimental Animal Reserch

.The Department of Experimental Animal Research (DEAR) consists of 4 divisions, division of experimental animal research (DEAR), division of good laboratory practice (GLP), division of medical device evaluation (MDEC), and nonhuman primate research center (NPRC).

DEAR consists of a laboratory animal facility that houses Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) rodents, rabbits, dogs, goats, pigs and cats. DEAR constitutes a specific laboratory facilities, including operating rooms for surgery, intensive care unit (ICU), clinical pathology, imaging diagnosis (radiology and ultrasonography), soundproofed room, and biosafety level 3 facility. DEAR plays a major role as the supporting animal research. GLP and MDEC fulfill nonclinical studies (toxicity, efficacy and biocompatibility) for drugs, functional food ingredients, cosmetics, biologics and medical device according to the GLP regulation. NPRC consists of a nonhuman primate facility and specific laboratory for nonhuman primate.

All of DEAR was inspected and fully accredited by the AAALAC international for improving animal management and global animal care system in 2007, 2010 and 2013. All animal protocols should be reviewed and approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in Seoul National University Hospital. DEAR also provides an educational course for basic animal experiment technique and standard operating procedure which is provides efficient conduct of animal experiment.
